Urgent 48-Hour Aluminium CNC Machining in Toulouse for Kurs Orbital

In short
- Client: Kurs Orbital, a space company based in Turin, Italy.
- Part: aluminium interface lid over 80 cm in diameter, for an exhibition.
- Requested lead time: 48 hours. Part finished one day early.
- Operations: profiling, cut-outs, faced pockets, drilling, counterboring, tapping and deburring.
- Files: client's STEP 3D model, CAM-programmed in the workshop.
- Workshop: Toulouse, France (31200), urgent CNC machining for aerospace, space and industry.
Kurs Orbital develops systems for the space sector. For an exhibition, the team needed an aluminium interface lid made within 48 hours. They sent their 3D model to the Alcyde workshop in Toulouse.
The photo above shows two details of the part straight off the machine: on the left the faced pockets, on the right a cut-out and the counterbores on the outer ring.
An urgent job handled in order: file, material, machine
On a 48-hour lead time, time is rarely lost on the machine. It is lost beforehand: a file to rework, material that cannot be found, a back-and-forth for approval. The job was therefore handled in this order:
- File review on receipt: reading the STEP model and drawing, listing operations and tools, questions to the client the same day.
- Locally available material: alloy and thickness were agreed with the client according to the part's use, then the sheet was bought from a Toulouse supplier.
- CAM programming and machining: all operations in a single setup, then finishing in the workshop.
The part was ready one day before the deadline.
What was machined
- Profiling of the disc and circular pass-through cut-outs.
- Faced pockets over part of the thickness, visible as the bright areas in the photo.
- Drilling and counterboring on the outer ring and across the surface.
- Tapping done in the workshop after machining.
- Deburring of edges on both faces.
The Kurs Orbital team collected the part from the workshop and checked the fit on site before leaving.
Aluminium machining for aerospace and space in Toulouse
Toulouse is home to much of the French aerospace and space industry. Urgent needs are common: replacement parts, mock-ups or exhibition pieces, line tooling, prototypes to validate before a review.
The Alcyde workshop machines aluminium sheet and plate from your 3D or 2D files, from one-off prototypes to small batches. We already work for the sector, including tooling and engineering plastic parts for aerospace and HDPE parts for A320 assembly lines.
What makes an urgent job possible
- A single point of contact: the person who reads your file is the one who programs and machines the part.
- A fast response: an urgent request received in the morning is reviewed the same day.
- Material suppliers nearby: no waiting for delivery on common sizes.
- Technical choices agreed with you: when the deadline requires an adaptation (material, finish), it is proposed before the part is started.
Frequently asked questions
Can you machine an aluminium part in 48 hours?
Yes, depending on workshop load and material availability. Send your file with the date you need it: we confirm the lead time before starting.
Which files should I send?
Preferably a STEP 3D model, with the PDF drawing for tolerances, threads and finishes. DXF and DWG files are accepted for flat parts.
Do you work for clients outside France?
Yes. Kurs Orbital is based in Italy. Parts are collected from the Toulouse workshop or shipped across France and Europe.
Does an urgent job cost more?
A surcharge applies when the part has to jump ahead of the current schedule. It is shown in the quote, before any order.
